Owen graduated from the Royal College of music in 2003 with first class honours as a scholarship student. He was then a Junior Fellow from 2004-2006. Since then Owen has had an extremely varied career, appearing as a soloist with the London Sinfonietta, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (Australia), BBC Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the Britten Sinfonia, Sinfonia Viva, De Doelen Ensemble (Holland), Orchestre de Picardie (France) the Macedonian Symphony Orchestra among others. His performances have been broadcast on Tv and radio all over Europe, USA, Japan, China, Australia and Mexico.
In 2001 Owen formed the percussion duo, O Duo, who have released 2 albums to critical acclaim and have performed globally at the BBC Proms, the Wigmore hall, Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), Morelia festival (Mexico), Harare Festival (Zimbabwe), the Cheltenham Festival, as well as performances in France, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia,etc. Since 2007 the Duo have been artistic Directors of Children’s Classic concerts in Scotland performing regularly or presenting concerts with the RSNO, to an annual audience of 30,000 children.
Owen has also performed as an orchestral and chamber musician with numerous groups; the BBC Orchestras, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, the Colin Currie Group (member), RTE Orchestras, CBSO, Ulster orchestra, Dublin Crash Ensemble (member),etc. To add to this in recent years Owen has given master classes at the Royal College of Music, Guildhall school of music, Royal Academy of music, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Morelia University (Mexico), Innsbruck Konservatorium (Austria), etc.
Owen has played/recorded new commissions by many composers including Steve Reich, George Benjamin, Brett Dean, Thomas Ades, Unsuk Chin, Aphex Twin, David Lang, Donnacha Dennehey, Nico Muhly, Micheal Nyman, Oliver Knussen, Helmut Lachenmann, etc.
