Kilkenny Arts Festival in partnership with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Crash Ensemble presents
‘If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it,’ George Berkeley famously asked, ‘does it make a sound?’ Since March, musicians deprived of a live audience have been asking themselves a similar question: if there’s no one to hear my performance, is it happening at all?
Now, happily, performances for small audiences are becoming possible again, and Kilkenny Arts Festival is thrilled to present some of the first. For two days, musicians from two of Ireland’s most celebrated ensembles – the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Crash Ensemble – will be embedded in locations around the city, offering bespoke, intimate concerts for individuals, pairs, and small family units. This is a wonderful chance to rediscover the power of live music, and to celebrate that much-missed connection between player and performer.
