NEW PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR
Ryan McAdams

We are delighted to welcome Ryan McAdams to the Crash Ensemble team! Ryan will be joining us as our Principal conductor.

Our longstanding friendship with Ryan began in 2017, premiering the celebrated Donnacha Dennehy opera The Second Violinist. A resident of Brighton and equally in demand on both sides of the Atlantic, Ryan was the conductor for Elliot Carter’s 103rd birthday celebration - named one of the Best Classical Music Events of the year by the New York Times.

"From our first rehearsals of Donnacha Dennehy's 'The Second Violinist,' the Crash Ensemble team has felt like family. Crash and I share a commitment to high-intensity performances, meaningful and creative relationships with our communities, and (occasionally reckless) artistic exploration. It is a dream to plan new projects with such ferocious, ambitious, and joyful musicians, especially during this time of global uncertainty and disappointment. I'm thrilled that we will continue to create together in the coming years.”

DOUBLE BASS / RESIDENT CONDUCTOR
Malachy Robinson

Malachy Robinson will join us as Resident conductor in 2021. Malachy has been double bassist with Crash since the beginning in 1997 and stepped in front as conductor in 2005. A fun, open and communicative musician, Mal is also a member of other acclaimed chamber groups in Ireland – the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Gregory Walkers and the Robinson String Quartet.

“Over the years there have been many small-group directing things that Kate assigned to me. Red Run in 2013 was a big one for me and Donnacha's As An Nos for the Gaida fest in Vilnius 2017. Then Crashlands which included conducting the recordings of Peter Adriaansz and Tansey Davies... I took conducting as my second study at college, with conductor Mark Shanahan. (30 years ago!)"

DOUBLE BASS
Caimin Gilmore

Double bassist Caimin Gilmore is a musician who does not sit still for long. During lockdown he occupied himself by making a series of recorded performances of new double bass works by Irish composers Sam PerkinLinda BuckleyBenedict Schlepper-Connolly and Nick Roth, culminating in a digital release of the pieces in June 2020 entitled String Ogham Live. When he’s not busy expanding the contemporary double bass repertoire, Caimin composes for and performs with Sun Collective, a five-piece group whose densely orchestrated chamber-folk draw on pop, folk and contemporary classical music.

VIOLIN / COMMUNITY MANAGER
Larissa O'Grady

Violinist Larissa O’Grady has been a member of Crash Ensemble since 2017, premiering new works by Donnacha DennehyAnn Cleare and Nico Muhly among others. Curiosity into the inner workings of design thinking, user experience and the world of innovation led her to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UCD in 2020. More conversations, collaboration and communication between the creative arts community and their audience is her north star in this community manager role, while at the same time performing new works and researching collaborative possibilities within the arts.
