Glassworks (Limerick)
Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick
October 15, 2024
-
Written in 1981, Glassworks was Glass’ wildly innovative attempt to merge minimalism and pop, creating ‘classical’ pieces with infectious pop hooks. It soon became one of the composer’s most popular works.
“a virtuosic and moving performance...” - The Journal of Music on Crash Ensemble’s performance of Glassworks (MusicTown 2023)
Written as a studio recording, Glassworks was released in 1982 as an LP and cassette on the CBS label, whose roster of artists includes Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen.
The LP and cassette had their own separate mixes, the LP for home listening and the cassette with a headphone specific mix and was Glass’s successful attempt to create a more pop-oriented ‘Walkman-suitable’ work.
